Fighting malnutrition and poverty from the womb.

MotherFood International has two scalable, sustainable models that achieve very high acceptability rates and creates market-based access to great-tasting, low cost, fortified foods to improve female nutrition. These products simultaneously stimulate local economies and eliminate the stigma associated with rations. To raise awareness of this problem and this viable solution, we have designed and developed a website, social media content, and brand and packaging where users can learn about the project and make donations.

Brand & Packaging Design

Walking through large chain supermarkets and small village shops, analyzing local purchasing behaviours, and going through many marketing campaigns allowed us to develop this initial packaging sample for Colombia. This design has received positive feedback from 200 women from different socio-economic backgrounds, ages 14-35. They feel they can trust the product inside.

This design will be later adapted to other countries’ standards.

experience

Volunteering for Motherfood has been an honour. I have been able to use my design thinking skills and entrepreneurial spirit to develop a solution to fight stunting caused by poor fetal growth, largely due to poor maternal nutrition. Having the opportunity to work with experienced social entrepreneurs and local manufacturers has helped me understand the many challenges that organizations face to make a positive impact in today’s society.

I have used my design skills to design brands and packaging that appeal to local market in India, Tanzania, and Colombia. I streamlined operations through digital tools at a very low cost and lead the production of the first batch of nutritional bars in Colombia
