Empowering Women, Fighting Malnutrition: A Lifelong Impact Begins in the Womb

MotherFood International pioneers two innovative, scalable models that tackle female malnutrition with dignity. By offering market-based access to delicious, low-cost fortified foods, the program not only improves women's health but also drives local economic growth. The solution is designed to seamlessly integrate into communities, replacing the stigma of food aid with empowerment. To amplify awareness and encourage action, we developed a comprehensive digital presence, including a website, social media campaigns, and striking brand and packaging design. Through these channels, users can explore the initiative’s impact and support it through donations.

Brand & Packaging Design

Walking through bustling chain supermarkets and intimate village shops, we closely analyzed local purchasing behaviors and consumer preferences. This hands-on research, combined with insights from numerous marketing campaigns, led to the creation of an initial packaging design tailored for the Colombian market. The design resonated with over 200 women, ranging in age from 14 to 35 and across various socio-economic backgrounds. Their feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing that the packaging instilled a sense of trust in the product inside.

This design will be later adapted to other countries’ standards.

experience

Volunteering for MotherFood has been an honor and a deeply fulfilling experience. I’ve had the opportunity to leverage my design thinking skills and entrepreneurial mindset to create solutions aimed at combating stunting caused by poor fetal growth, which is often a result of inadequate maternal nutrition. Collaborating with experienced social entrepreneurs and local manufacturers has given me a firsthand understanding of the complex challenges organizations face when working to create lasting, positive change.

I applied my design expertise to develop brands and packaging tailored to local markets in India, Tanzania, and Colombia. Additionally, I streamlined operational processes by implementing cost-effective digital tools, and led the production of the first batch of nutritional bars in Colombia. This project has not only honed my skills but also allowed me to contribute to a cause that drives real-world impact.
